Admittedly, forsythia has grown on me over the years. I used to not think too much of it but now I look forward to it being one of the first woody cuts to bloom along with quince. Its bright yellow flowers sing of the joy of spring and in winter the branches serve as a perch for birds. The foliage holds really well in a vase, so its great to be able to cut for additional interest besides just the flowers. The growth habit is lovely and not too spreading but with great lines. 'Show Off' is a perfect name for this one as it is just covered in flowers. Deer resistant (ours haven't been touched) and easy to grow, this is a vigorous plant you shouldn't have much if any trouble with. Best cut back after flowering, and that would be the time to do any shaping. Excellent cut flower and is easy to force should you need to see some color in your house before it's ready to bloom in the field. Prefers medium moisture and part to full sun.
